The Warriors will come home from the road trip 0-3 after a tough loss in Atlanta. Steph Curry's 37 points weren't enough, even though he received help from Kelly Oubre (20 points) and Andrew Wiggins (16 points).
The first half was something we have seen lots of times this season. Good first quarter, led by Wiseman, who scored all his points (8) in the first 8 minutes, and giving Capela nightmares in the paint, but the fouls and shooting (1/7 from 3 in the 1st) punished the Warriors, and the first quarter ended in a tie at 24. In the second quarter, the second unit, once again, struggled, and when Steph came back, they were down 5. But with Curry back, the Warriors started playing good, and the 1st half ended with Golden State leading 57-55. In the 3rd quarter, you could see how much both teams wanted the game, with lots of turnovers and great deffensive plays. But in the 4th, the second unit messed everything again. They started nice, and after 5 minutes they were still leading by one. But then the Hawks went on a key 8-0 run before Steph came in. In that run, Jordan Poole missed a wide open layup and then that was followed by a Snell three. That play was devastating, and when Steph came back, it was too little, too late, and the Hawks took the game. The fouls and the free throws were the main reason of the loss. One stat shows how bad this problem was: The second unit scored 19 points, and they had 16 fouls.
Who has the fault? Well, lots of people think Steve Kerr, who last night he made some big mistakes. For Example, when Wiseman scored 8 points and was having his best quarter in a long time, he took him out for the entire half. He left Damion Lee in the game all 4th quarter, and he even shot twice (missed both). Not everything is his fault, but Kerr hasn't been making good decisions this season.
Stats: Atlanta were led by Capela, who had a great double-double: 24 points and 18 rebounds, and Gallinari and Lou Williams, who came of the bench, killed the Warriors second unit, with 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Italian and 15 points for Williams. Trae Young actually had a bad game, he only scored 13 points, with no threes, shooting 3 for 11, and he turned the ball over 7 times.
Curry, with 37 points, led Golden State, with support from Oubre, Wiggins, and Draymond, who all scored in double digits. But from the bench no one scored 10 points, and the free throws (45 from Atlanta, made 35) outscored by a lot the 21 from the Warriors (15 made)
The Warriors have to get better if they want that last play-in spot, because New Orleans is just half a game behind, and the Warriors's next game is Milwaukee on thursday, so they might lose the 10th seed soon. Let's hope that doesn't happen
